Music

Confession:

I had to dust off the site today because I haven’t written in months. It’s also been a LONG while since I’d taken a look at this page, which caused me to laugh and then do some massive redesigning. Pictures from Sydney and Brayden’s time working in Nashville, or more specifically, Franklin, TN, the Contemporary Christian Music capitol, used to reside here.

Truth be told, I honestly look back on those days with a little fondness, but I mostly cringe. We met some really amazing people during that season, but they were few and far between. We also have some really entertaining stories, like the time I told Syd’s producer that I didn’t like him… twice. Or the time I told the VP of a record label that his strategy reminded me of the movie Monsters, INC. (They insisted on pursuing the over-the top, feel-good songs meant to distract 50-year-old soccer moms from their problems, when they should be focused (at least, in part) songs that speak directly into the heart-ache facing youth.

Because, from our experiences on the road… this was the reason those moms were looking for a distraction.

In the Company of Wolves

Well… five years later, a lot has changed. Sydney is no longer a solo act. She and Brayden have formed a duo, and are working towards a full band. They intentionally picked a name that speaks for itself and they have created an audience that, in large part, has experienced the same bumps and bruises from the institution of church.

I listen to their music when I write. (I also throw in a little Mumford and Sons from time to time.) If you’re interested, you can listen to the kids HERE.
